Language peeves

I'm very hopeful in 2011 that these words/phrases will lose fashion:

"yummers"

"preggers"

"delish"

"fave/faves"

"did the whole ___ thing"  (as in: "I did the whole Christmas thing", "we did the whole family vacation thing ")

As if whatever you did was so inanely stereotypical that there is nothing at all unusual to say about it.

"Cool Water" - Talking Heads' Naked Album

Day by day ... whistle while you work ... ourBacks are breaking ... up from hollow earth ...From end to end ... the noise begins ... in theHuman battle stations ... and the big one’sComing inWork, work, work, work ... work till holes areFilled ... work, work, work, work ... bags ofBone and skin ... lovers hold hands ... tossingTheir heads ... tangled in hair ... tied to earth... with skin and glueBut their skin is the same as yoursComing in for the world to seeThey can sit at the table, tooThe same blood as you and meSpeak very softly .. hold my hand ... someone isSleeping ... in my bed ... priests pass by ...Worms crawl in ... one dreams to be ... one dreamFor allHis skin is the same as yoursIs he not made the same as you? And some have fallen downAnd blood spilled on the groundWork, work, workTill his life is doneuThe old man .. is at our door ... and he’sKnocking ... knocking ... as his neighbors weep... each day repeats ... are we nothing in yourEyes? ... someone answer, someone answer ... thisRusted garden gate ... can barely even stand ...Their work is over now ... and rest will be atHandIs their skin not the same as yours? Can they sit at the table to drinkCool waterCool wateruAnd his lungs are filled with rain...And the water’s rushing in...
